چکیده

In this paper, we study the impacts of checkpointing and write-through procedures, which are critical in maintaining database recoverability and transaction durability, on the performance of a well-known real-time concurrency control protocol, the Read/Write Priority Ceiling Protocol (RWPCP). Although RWPCP can guarantee the schedulability of real-time transactions, it could be unrecoverable, and the priority inversion problems could be unbounded, when transaction commitment is considered. In this paper, we first propose to extend RWPCP with deferredcommitment and extended-locking-period methods to resolve the problems. Then, we study the impacts of different checkpointing granularities and checkpointing methods on the proposed recoverable RWPCP. A detailed simulation study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the recoverable RWPCP with different checkpointing methods under various workloads.

The Comparative Effect of Reading-to-Write and Writing-Only Tasks on the Improvement of EFL Learners’ Writing Ability

The ability to write effectively is becoming progressively important and instruction in writing is assuming an increasing role in second and foreign language education. Students’ writing abilities have been tested through various writing tasks. Independent tasks of writing or writing-only tasks have been utilized to test students’ writing ability; however, they have been criticized for their la...

Lightweight write detection and checkpointing for ne - grained persistence

Many systems must dynamically track writes to cached data, for the purpose of reconciling those updates with respect to the permanent or global state of the data. For example, distributed systems employ coherency protocols to ensure a consistent view of shared data. Similarly, database systems log updates both for concurrency control and to ensure the resilience of those updates in the face of ...

A Survey of Concurrency Control Algorithms in the Operating Systems

Concurrency control is one of the important problems in operation systems. Various studies have been reported to present different algorithms to address this problem, although a few attempts have been made to represent an overall view of the characteristics of these algorithms and comparison of their capabilities to each other. This paper presents a survey of the current methods for controlling...

Real-Time Concurrency Control Protocol Based on Accessing Temporal Data

Concurrency control is one of the main issues in the studies of real-time database systems. On the one hand, it is related closely to active real-time database and real-time application. Concurrency control algorithm seriously affect the performance of the system in real-time, may cause unpredictable consequences. On the other hand, updating data in active real-time database may trigger a new t...

The Reduced Ceiling Protocol for Concurrency Control in Real-time Databases with Mixed Transactions

This paper proposes a real-time concurrency control protocol called Reduced Ceiling Protocol (RCP) for real-time database systems (RTDBS) consisting of hard and soft real-time transactions. The schedulability of hard real-time transactions can be improved by bounding the blocking time from soft real-time transactions. Different concurrency control strategies are proposed to resolve data conflic...
